Explore Alcatraz in San Francisco

Take the ferry or a cruise across San Francisco Bay to Alcatraz, and get up close and personal with one of the most notorious federal penitentiaries in history, as well as see the first lighthouse and US built fort. Tour the dark cells and listen to the eerie audio tours to really get a feel of what went on inside.  In contrast, the island itself is rich with natural beauty with gardens, tide pools, and dramatic bay views for a sightseeing adventure.

FAQs

  • What types of tours can I take of Alcatraz?

There are several tours available ranging from time of day. The Early Bird tour is the first Alcatraz trip of the day, which sails out of Pier 33 at 8:45 AM. The next Day Tour runs all day and includes memorable sights to go along with a 45-minute audio tour. The Alcatraz Night Tour is the most popular and it showcases a more intimate Alcatraz experience. The Alcatraz & Angel Island Tour combines the best of both worlds. This tour includes a ferry ride to and from Angel Island and Alcatraz and a one-hour narrated Tram Tour of Angel Island as well as the Alcatraz Cell House Audio Tour.
  • Where is the best place to park for Alcatraz tours?

Fisherman's Wharf has garage and lot parking with plenty of spaces, as well as metered street parking with a four-hour time limit. There are also about 15 parking lots within a five-block radius of the Alcatraz ferry, but they are on a first come first serve basis and often fill up quickly. There is also accessible parking at Pier 33.
